Workforce and Skills, Crime, and Traffic Congestion Datasets for the United States Complement Existing Data

Redlands, California (March 11, 2008)—New datasets added to Business Analyst Online, ESRI’s Web-based business analysis tool, enable professionals in commercial real estate, retail, economic development, urban planning, and public safety organizations to conduct even more comprehensive market analyses with data reports and imagery.

“This information will be invaluable to our customers, enabling them to make even better business decisions that can improve their efficiencies and grow revenues,” says Brenda Wolfe, Business Analyst Online product manager, ESRI.

Comprehensive workforce and skills data for the United States provides a detailed view of local workforce populations and types of labor available by employee demographics, skills, training, experience, and occupations. Workforce Strategies, Inc., an experienced data vendor of workforce and labor market data for more than 20 years, provided the information for these reports. Analysts can use this data to identify labor shortages and increased competition for workers, create strategies to optimize an area’s labor force, better understand a local labor force, and market the strengths of local labor by skill sets.

Understanding safety issues in a market is a critical element of any trade area analysis. CrimeRisk data from Applied Geographic Solutions (AGS) provides information about personal and property crimes such as murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny, and motor vehicle theft. The CrimeRisk Profile provides totals and indexes for 10 crime categories that are illustrated with a chart for easy interpretation. CrimeRisk thematic maps are also available for each of the 10 categories. Urban planning, public safety, economic development, retail, and commercial real estate professionals can use this data to assess crime activity by trade area, define areas for increased police coverage, plan marketing strategies, and provide important response information to sales staff.

Traffic congestion data from LandSonar includes information for nonholiday weekday periods by median expected road speed conditions on interstates, major highways, and selected major roads in the continental United States. This data is available in four Traffic Congestion Maps—Morning (7:00 a.m.–8:00 a.m.), Noon (noon–1:00 p.m.), Afternoon (5:00 p.m.–6:00 p.m.), and Evening (7:00 p.m.–8:00 p.m.). Public safety officials can use this data to determine the best routes for emergency evacuations; economic developers, urban planners, commercial real estate staff, and retailers need this information to define optimal sites by traffic flow.

MADISON, Wis., March 1, 2007 — TrafficCast International, Inc., the leader in real-time traffic data analysis, and LandSonar, the leading supplier of full coverage highway speed trends, announce the product launch of LPS Plus, an enhancement to LandSonar Predictive Speed (LPS™).

LPS Plus offers a unique historical traffic speed data set for LBS and GIS applications, an integration of the two largest historical traffic flow databases in the traffic industry. For ten years, TrafficCast has archived public sensor data while LandSonar has developed speed trends from GPS probe data over the last five years. In combination, LPS Plus offers increasingly accurate data for efficient route planning and improved trip time estimation. LPS Plus projects historical speeds to the link ID and traffic code level for digital maps of major roads throughout the United States, 450,000 miles of roadway coverage defined in 15-minute increments.

This enhancement to LPS, the industry-leading historical road speed aggregation product, also addresses anomalies and data gaps that result from the source GPS probes. TrafficCast fills these gaps with proprietary technology integrating its own archive of historic traffic data, collected from a variety of public and private sources. The result normalizes historical speed data output for precise resolutions of digital mapping and routing applications.

Since 2001, LandSonar has collected billions of open and proprietary historic GPS observations to develop highly accurate historical traffic speed information for the continental US. TrafficCast aggregates real-time information from over 350 US data and processes through sophisticated traffic impact modeling tools. Its technology was recently deployed in the world’s largest cell probe system in Shanghai. The companies’ offerings interoperate with the commercial mapping data of both NAVTEQ and Tele Atlas.

This integration of data sets is a further extension of previously announced agreements between LandSonar and TrafficCast to develop advanced traffic flow products for customers in traditional and interactive media, fleet management, and the public sector.

“This enhancement to our core LPS product will further enable our clients and partners to achieve precision in their LBS and navigation applications,” said Jonathan Hubbard, CEO and co-founder at LandSonar.

“TrafficCast International is pleased to add our core traffic engineering experience and archived traffic flow data to enrich the already strong LPS product,” said Connie Li, CEO of TrafficCast International.

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, July 11, 2006 — LandSonar™, a leading supplier of network delivered predictive traffic products, announces a broad, technology and product licensing agreement with NAVTEQ (NYSE: NVT). LandSonar has licensed to NAVTEQ its core LandSonar Predictive Speed (LPS™) product, which offers predictive speed values with extensive coverage of the US continental road network.

LPS, one of a series of products stemming from LandSonar’s complete, accurate predictive capability, projects speeds to the NAVTEQ linkID and traffic code level in increments as short as fifteen minutes. With this key new tool and its granularity, estimated delivery windows, arrival times and travel durations are significantly more precise. LPS and NAVTEQ® map data are designed for use with all market leading routing and mapping management tools.

“NAVTEQ continues to enhance its portfolio of creative traffic content to bring higher levels of functionality to navigation products.” said Howard Hayes, vice president, Dynamic Content product management. “So, we are pleased to be further building our relationship with LandSonar, an innovative data supplier who obviously shares our vision. We look forward to further developments.”

LandSonar has been at work for over three years collecting billions of open and proprietary historic GPS and sensor observations to develop a highly accurate predictive capability. It is first to market full coverage forecast traffic data products to commercial, consumer and government customers. These businesses now use LandSonar powered products like NAVTEQ map data to increase fleet efficiency, improve customer service and reduce wasted time on the road.

“NAVTEQ is the standard bearer for map accuracy and coverage in North America. Our data’s accuracy is a complement to their approach of quality first.” said Robert Reid, executive vice president and co-founder at LandSonar. “Until now, digital maps have limited the expression of speed to static speed limits. With LPS, it is now possible for map data to reveal the reality of ‘rush hour’ in a way that is easy for navigation and routing solutions to use. The plans NAVTEQ has for LPS promises to fundamentally change routing and navigation.”

LPS in NAVTEQ format for the continental US is now available directly from LandSonar and will be available from other parties as an integrated part of NAVTEQ map data in the coming months.

About NAVTEQ

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, June 6, 2006 - LandSonar, leading supplier of network delivered predictive traffic products, announces the successful integration of its LandSonar Predictive Speed (LPS™) data with Telcontar’s Drill Down Server (DDS). Working closely with Telcontar engineering, LandSonar achieved seamless integration of its innovative forecast traffic data with DDS. Based on LandSonar’s extensive research, modeling and development with real-world traffic data, this joint development will enable DDS end-users to predict more accurate travel times and better routes.

Telcontar’s DDS is the premier geospatial software platform for location-based services in traffic estimates. It enables the delivery of a variety of location-based applications to multiple devices including cell phones, web browsers, PDAs, smartphones, and vehicle telematics units. Until today, routing solutions like DDS have relied solely on static speed data to determine estimated trip durations and arrival times. Now, with LPS compiled into Telcontar’s proprietary and patented Rich Map Format (RMF), users can quickly generate highly accurate, time sensitive predictive routes for the entire continental US.

LandSonar has been at work for over three years collecting billions of open and proprietary historic GPS and sensor observations to develop a highly accurate predictive capability. Commercial, consumer and government customers can now use LandSonar predictive traffic powered products like Telcontar’s to increase fleet efficiency, improve customer service and reduce wasted time on the road. LPS, one of a series of products stemming from LandSonar’s complete, accurate predictive capability, offers the most complete coverage for speed predictions.

“Data accuracy is the foundation for providing a relevant and useful user experience. Its level of integrity will either make or break a traffic-based application,” said Richard Poppen, vice president, research and development and chief technology officer at Telcontar. “The accuracy and coverage of LPS lets our users have realistic estimates of the actual speeds and the realities of rush hour. They will benefit enormously from these results!”

LandSonar has developed a suite of traffic products sold primarily to AVL, LBS, device manufacturers and product developers in need of verifiable speed and traffic visibility. The company continues to enhance accuracy and model the impacts on predictive traffic with products targeted at risk mitigation, fleet efficiency and intelligent routing decisions. LandSonar is accelerating its pace of data acquisition, geographic coverage and traffic science. Its products are designed to work with leading products from NAVTEQ, Telcontar and Tele Atlas.

“Choosing DDS as a platform for LPS was a simple decision,” said Robert Reid, executive vice president and co-founder at LandSonar. “Telcontar’s products lead the industry in route and traffic expression, but still required the ability to estimate what’s likely to happen. Working together, we have the first solution making predictions based on complete coverage data for our shared customers.”

The LPS powered DDS solution is available now for demonstration to Telcontar customers and is expected to be deployed for end-user functionality in the second half of 2006.
